The balloon at the top blocks one end to create pressure. It stops air from entering and exerting a downward force on the liquid, leaving only the upwards force of air pressure from below. This upwards force is stronger than the force of gravity pulling down on the liquid.
Therefore, once you squeeze the bottle, due to upward force, it pulls water upwards. At the top of the bottom tube, we put a flap which represents a valve. It opens when the blood is not entering but closes when blood is entering. We used the latex gloves to have one of the layer to be more elastic than the other(plastic bottle). Lastly, it recoils back to the "open position" after force is removed. |
